Classes starting 27th January 2017
Formal classes in traditional music and arts are organized by the club on Friday evenings. Subject to demand, each year the club offers classes Banjo/Mandolin; Bodhrán; Button Accordian; Concertina; Fiddle; Flute; Tin Whistle; Sean-Nós Dancing; Harp; Uileann Pipes; Guitar; Singing.
The current term is shorter than usual starting 27th January through to 5th May. There are 2 holidays that fall on Fridays, St Patrick’s Day and Good Friday.
Because of the short term, the fee for such classes is €70 per person per term, with discounts if more than one class is being taken. The charge for participation by adults in lessons for group playing (grúpa cheoil) is €40 but free if a paid class is being taken. Discounts are applied at the booking stage using the Easy Payments Plus facility on this site.
Classes are open to members and are graded for learners and improvers of all ages. Our teachers have many accolades, titles, recordings and other achievements to their names and each year, they ensure not only that the tradition that we love is passed on but that it goes from strength to strength. All officers of the club and the teachers have been subject to vetting by An Garda Síochána.
Tunes for the classes are drawn from Foinn Seisiúin, books which contain the tunes in both “A, B, C” and staff notation. The books, together with accompanying CD, are available for purchase.
The club is committed to giving particular support to those with young families. A Family Fee of €300 allows the whole family, parents and children, to participate in up to a maximum of 8 classes per family and a max of 3 per person.
Another practical support for families is our instrument loan scheme which allows parents to postpone buying an instrument for a trial period until satisfied that their child has taken to it. Instruments are limited, however, so members are advised to contact a member of the committee when enrolling.
